Neil Marshall is a Nyul Nyul man from the West Kimberley region who has recently returned home to Broome following an extended period working across Australia in Indigenous affairs related roles. He possesses extensive experience in Aboriginal policy and programmes within the Australian Public Service (APS) with multiple agencies, Aboriginal Affairs with the Government of Western Australia and for the past seven years in the private sector with Japanese energy company INPEX as an Aboriginal Affairs Advisor and since June 2022 with Rio Tinto’s Winu Project where he is employed as a Specialist Communities and Social Performance based in Broome.
Neil has a strong understanding of the social disadvantage that faces Indigenous Australian’s particularly those across the Kimberley and also the social and economic challenges faced by the whole Kimberley population. He has a special interest in Indigenous economic development and changing the dial on the government’s election driven false economies imposed upon Indigenous communities and wants to support greater advocacy for change in the design and application of policies impacting people across the region which will enable a transition from welfare dependency to active participants in the economic prosperity of broader Australia. |
